Ready to publish? Let’s double-check
Before publishing content, complete this checklist to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and consistency across all undergraduate education websites.
Headings
- Use proper hierarchy:
<h1>
= page title (only one per page)<h2>
= section titles<h3>
= sub-sections under<h2>
- Do not skip levels (e.g., don’t jump from
<h1>
to<h3>
). - Reference: SiteFarm: Proper Use of Headings
Images
- All images must include descriptive alt text that explains the image’s purpose (do not leave alt text blank).
- Avoid using images of text unless absolutely necessary.
- Reference: SiteFarm: Adding and editing images
Links
- Use descriptive link text (e.g., “View the admissions requirements” instead of “Click here”).
- Links should open in the same window unless going to a non-UC Davis site.
- Reference: UCOP: Carefully select the language for links
Content formatting
- Avoid large text blocks; use lists, headings, or white space to improve readability.
- Use bold or italics sparingly for emphasis.
Files and documents
- PDFs must be accessible before uploading.
- Ensure file names are descriptive and free of spaces (e.g.,
admissions-requirements-2025.pdf
). - Reference: SiteFarm: Accessible Documents
Final review
- Check spelling and grammar.
- Verify all internal/external links work.
- Confirm the content is up to date and accurate.
