Interim Executive Director, Writing Center
Matthew Stratton, a Professor of Teaching in the Department of English, is the Interim Executive Director for the Writing Center.
After teaching at the University of Michigan-Flint and Ohio University, Stratton arrived in Davis as an Assistant Professor in 2008. He has been closely involved with reading and writing on campus ever since. His scholarship focuses on intersections between aesthetics, politics, and history (intellectual, literary, and cultural), especially as the first half of the twentieth century inflects our contemporary vision of representation and action. He is the author of The Politics of Irony in American Modernism (2014) and served as the editor of the Routledge Companion to Politics and Literature in English (2023).
As a first-generation-to-college student himself, Stratton is proud to support the First-Generation Initiative. He received the UC Davis Distinguished Teaching Award for Undergraduate Teaching in 2017.
